This video highlights hockey stopping for beginners. Howtohockey.com breaks down the hockey stop for complete beginners. The instructor shows you the different types of edges and what edge you use to actually stop. We here at prodigy hockey love to teach young players to do the first drill demonstrated in the video of cutting ice with one foot to get the feel of stopping and shaving the ice. For skaters that aren’t quite strong enough to even shave the ice its helpful to have a Coach take the players skate while they are standing up, usually holding themselves up by the boards and shave the ice with the players skate to give the beginner player the feel for the ice. This allows them to get a sense of the stopping so when they are strong enough they will know the motion and feeling.
